Ideas to Real Life

Something Ive never really done outside of conversations with you guys is really talk about how we design our garments. From the feeling - to a concept - to a physical garment.

Now to clarify i have absolutely no background in textiles apart from my mother teaching me how to use her sewing machine (i used to hand sew a lot of the first garments we made). What i do have is an undeniable passion for creativity and design, this has really come to fruition since starting the brand. The most fulfilling part of this is having ideas in your head come to life. Even more so when i can see others sharing that and wearing it! So take what i say with a pinch of salt.

But what i do believe is that when your learning on your own just though your own experiences that you find this incredible space where you make your own terms. Nobody is telling you old industry standards or idealises how everyone else says how they do it. You just figure it out your own way, as a beginner this is such an amazing process and one which I believe has made our designs so unique. This also opens up a space to do things completly differently to anyone else, to go against the grain. I love this application and you can use it in everything!

I’ll be sharing more thoughts and the processes that we go through when we design clothes and share what samples we like and don’t like. As not everything that we have ideas for makes it out onto our website. This entry is mainly around what we’ve got upcoming, new samples arrived and we want to share that process with every one. Most brands just hide their products until they launch but why waste all the excitement until the end. The journey is the most rewarding part.

A big standard I’ve given myself when drawing things it to take time and get it absolute perfect and clear. This is so that we don’t waste months sampling things over and over again. All our best products have been sampled once, twice at most. Taking time to go into details and measurements. If this process is rushed at the start you’ll only shoot yourself in the foot as further down the line it takes months to have samples made.

Our most recent samples we've just had arrived to us here in Sydney is a white ribbed Henley, distressed jorts and a navy cotton boxy tee. Check the images, it amazes us every time. To the small details around using coconut to create buttons and fabrics that feel amazing when you wear them. We are super stocked with how these came out! I’ll show you first sketches alongside these also so it shows the idea to the physical. We want to spend some more time perfecting the jorts but the tees will fly.

The Henley is kind of similar to the sera long sleeve we’ve done but with its own twist. It’s a different fabric, change of silhouette and has added features all whilst still keeping minimal design. It fits amazingly in the right places and pairs easily with most of your wardrobe. It’s got a rouleau loop and our favourite branded embroidery. Carefully selected fabrics and this type of artwork reside in our ethos for timeless wear.

The new navy tee is a new type of cotton, slightly thinner GSM, heavy wash and brushed to feel soft on the skin. It’s got some new branding on that ties into the collection name - Dont stay where you don’t Bloom. Brand new colour to add to the pallet. Finished with a touch of distressing as i love the look of old workwear. Now it’s time to press the button and order the bulk, 6-8 weeks and these will be live.

This is the first of many posts where I’ll talk about the process behind the design. If anyone has any questions about things or just wants to reach out feel free id live to talk to you.
